Our History:
Virginia Educators Credit Union (VECU) is a financial organization established and directed by members of the educational community in the cities of Newport News, Williamsburg, and their surrounding counties. The credit union was established in 1954 as the Warwick Teachers’ Association Credit Union.
With a charter membership of only nine teachers, Virginia Educators Credit Union’s membership has grown to nearly 8,000. To remain current with its expanded membership, the credit union adopted the name of Virginia Educators Credit Union in 1995.
Virginia Educators Credit Union continues to serve students, educators, PTA members, college students, alumni, and their families in Newport News, Williamsburg, and surrounding counties. The credit union is committed to providing resources that assist in the financial advancement of the educational community.

In honoring the credit union philosophy of “people helping people,” Virginia Educators Credit Union has a dedicated volunteer Board of Directors who uphold this principle.
